Blind, Furious Optimism

Hello! My name is Essence.

By day, I specialize in strategic communication and organizational development for a fortune 500 company in Atlanta, GA. [Update: Read why I decided to become a stay-at-home mom recently] By night (and let’s be real, I pull double-duty during the day too), I am a mom of 2 wonderful boys [Update: number 3 is on the way, check out my post – Baby Wilson #3 Announcement], a wife, a real-estate investor, a cook, a teacher, a really bad gardener, an okay designer, and now – officially – a blogger.

Like many women, I wear several hats. I am particularly skilled in many things but a master of none, which posed as a challenge when determining the purpose of my blog. I kept asking myself, “What do I have to offer the world?”. Truth is, I probably can’t offer you anything you haven’t already learned about in some way. I am no more special than anyone else I encounter. However, with all the blogs out there offering “expert” advise, fashion suggestion, beauty recommendations,  and on and on, the one thing that I rarely find is a blog that really touches on the “realness” ordinary people – and specifically women – experience.

We are defined by our journeys and the decisions we make everyday – all of them imperfect and perfect at the same time. It’s this dichotomy that makes us [Women] uniquely strong and persevering – yet, so fragile. What I want to offer is space to further strengthen and support that fragility. I’ve always appreciated the satisfaction of sharing and receiving love, affirmation, and support from those around me – something I think genuinely exists less and less as each generation passes.

I hope as I begin to share my experiences with being a career-woman, mom, wife, and entrepreneur, that I spark inspiration in others. I hope to bring encouragement not because my life is so fabulous, but because I’m unafraid to be vulnerable and reassuring to those around me. I want to be an open-book about mistakes and hardships and victories and acceptance and forgiveness for my readers. And I hope to be a helping hand in ensuring your success whatever the endeavor.
